The Core Problem
Operational Bottlenecks Identified
Nakshit Jewels was using a generic POS system that could not handle the unique billing requirements of jewellery retail. Invoices required gold rate-based pricing (updated daily), per-gram weight calculations, variable making charges per item category, and GST applied differently on gold value vs making charges. Stock management was maintained separately in Excel with frequent reconciliation mismatches. HUID hallmark compliance records were maintained manually in a paper register — a significant audit risk. Customer purchase histories and old-gold exchange records were not tracked digitally.
Systems-First Architecture
We conducted a full billing process audit alongside the shop owner and accounts team. We mapped every pricing scenario: new jewellery purchase, old gold exchange, advance booking, and repair orders. The database was designed with jewellery-specific entities: gold_rate_log, items (with purity, weight, making_charges_type), huid_register, and customer_kyc. The POS interface was designed to be operable by non-technical shop staff with minimal training.
